I never thought “spooky” would be a word to describe yoga, but thanks to the digital artists over at Hybrid Medical Animation, now I can. They created this eerily awesome visual representation of the skeletal system fluidly moving into and out of various positions. While yoga is known to be beneficial to virtually every aspect of health, from flexibility to mood, this virtual x-ray video allows a glimpse into the basic building blocks of how it works. Plus, I imagine this is how all the creepy haunted skeletons prepare for their journey of trekking through my nightmares.
According to Hybrid Medical’s description for this video on their YouTube page, they wanted to create a realistic look at how bones move as seen in radiological imaging. Getting the details just right took a lot of work, they explain: “Technical challenges included aspects such as achieving proper bone densities and representing actual bone marrow inside each individual bone.” I’m no expert, but I’d say they did a pretty fantastic job, because if I didn’t know better, I would assume this was actual x-ray footage of someone doing yoga. It’s quite brief, but includes a fun trip through the mouth and all the way down the spinal chord. The bare-bones of our bodies allow a beautiful range of motion, as this video displays all their intricacies in simple greyscale.
